Through the Forgotten Rails: The Maka to Dibombari Expedition
Did you know we organize general trips every 30 days? In December, our monthly adventure took us on a demanding, three-hour trek from the historic Maka Bridge all the way to Dibombari. Trust me, every single step was a story. At TravelCameroon, we specialize in taking you deep into the heart of the country's hidden landscapes. If you have ever experienced the incredible group energy on The Edea Expedition, you already know that our treks are designed to transform ordinary weekends into legendary tales of camaraderie.
Walking Through History’s Forgotten Diary
We kicked off our trek in Maka, immediately exploring an eerie abandoned colonial railway and a silent, ghost train station. It truly felt like walking through the pages of history’s forgotten diary. This region's transport infrastructure dates back to historical networks built during the German colonial era in Cameroon, and standing beside those rusted rails was a hauntingly beautiful experience.
Vibrant local villages popped up along the path, each carrying its own unique tale. Somewhere in between the trails, we took a break to drink fresh, sweet matango (palm wine), pumped refreshing water from an old mechanical village pump, and laughed like carefree kids discovering magic for the very first time. Then came Mbumbu land… don’t ask me who originally named it, but our group baptized it properly—with cold beer, roaring laughs, and perfectly spiced meat.
Arrival at Country Range: Forest Banquets & Natural Streams
From the wild trails, the tar road eventually led us straight to the beautiful Country Range estate in Dibombari, where a village of tents stood ready for our arrival. Our talented bush cook instantly transformed the forest clearing into a royal banquet—serving up steaming potatoes, seasoned rice, much pepper, crispy fried fish, and fresh organic fruits. It was a whole orchestra of local flavors!
We ate to our hearts' content, explored the sprawling green estate, and the brave among us dove headfirst into the cool, rushing stream for a bath that felt like nature’s own champagne. This perfect balance of rugged exploration and refreshing waters brings to mind the serene, rejuvenating vibes our travelers love at the hidden Sassé Shrine Waterfall in Buea.
Campfire Freedom and Morning After Rituals
As night fell, the dense forest lit up beautifully with the aroma of barbecue smoke, booming music, and endless laughter. Then came the main event: the campfire. Between adult games and social drinking, it was pure, unadulterated freedom—living life to the absolute fullest as if it were our last night on earth. This wild, festive spirit mirrors the poolside chaos and nightlife energy of our popular Edea Sanaga Gorges Trip.
The next morning hit completely different. I woke up delightfully late to find two cold bottles of beer waiting right outside my tent flap like secret admirers. Gathered around the morning embers, some travelers quietly reflected on the wild night, while the ladies beautifully braided each other’s hair, their skin glowing in the soft forest light.
And breakfast? Heavy is an understatement! We feasted on spicy pepper soup for the bold, classic puff-puff and beans, fresh bread, hot tea, eggs, arrays of fruit, traditional miyondo, and massive piles of meat… Ooff, this is the good life, and I’m fully living it. This is exactly what our monthly TravelCameroon trips are all about—raw, untouched nature, endless laughter, and unforgettable vibes.
