The Great Debate: Trading Sleep for Strangers

What happens when you trade your cozy Sunday morning bed for a 2-hour debate session on a bus full of strangers? If you are traveling with TravelCameroon, it means those strangers quickly become your co-conspirators in one wild, unforgettable ride! Our journey kicked off at 6:00 AM sharp at Total Rond Point Douala with breakfast snacks in hand. By 7:00 AM, the bus was a beautiful, chaotic scene of people laughing, snacking, and passionately arguing about who reigns supreme as the best African artist. Before we knew it, the city noise faded away, replaced by the lush green calling of Edea. It felt just like the lively group energy we always experience on the way to our Grassfield Cultural Experience.

Gorge de Edea: Nature’s Spa (and Frying Pans)

By 8:00 AM, we arrived at our breathtaking riverside base, the historic Hostellerie de la Sanaga—a true hidden gem surrounded by palm trees and tranquil water. But there was no time to lounge just yet; we immediately boarded a speedboat for the magnificent Gorge de Edea. Standing at the edge of the gorge, the massive rocks look like God's abandoned Legos, and the roaring waterfalls are ready to give you a free facial. We took our boat right under the cascading water—an absolute 10/10 experience!

Once we disembarked for our photo session, reality hit our feet. Pro Tip: Always wear shoes! These dark volcanic rocks in the midday sun are straight-up frying pans. We were jumping around like the ground was literal lava, but reaching the summit made every blister worth it. The panoramic view of the majestic Sanaga River from the top is absolute cinema.

Midge Meditation & Poolside Chaos

After the hike, we attempted ten minutes of peaceful group meditation on the rocks. Keyword: attempted. The local midges (sandflies) decided to join uninvited, turning our zen moment into a competitive game of "how fast can you slap yourself." Still, we get an A for effort! If you love water adventures but want fewer midges, you should definitely check out our upcoming Tropical Cruise Paint & Chill.

By 11:00 AM, we headed back to the hotel to unleash the second half of the day. The afternoon dissolved into beautiful poolside chaos. While some of our crew initiated a tennis tournament (inventing "Long Tennis Rules" that absolutely nobody followed), others coolly executed cannonballs into the swimming pool. By 1:00 PM, we transformed into total barbecue monsters, devouring perfectly grilled fish, chicken, and meats right by the water.

Walking Through History: The Colonial Bridge

Before making our way back to Douala, we wrapped up our day at 3:00 PM with an insightful city tour of Edea. The highlight was walking across the iconic, German colonial-era bridge that stretches majestically over the river—a powerful monument bridging Cameroon’s past and present. Edea proved to be painfully beautiful, utterly exhausting, and absolutely worth it, much like our historic tour to Manoka Island.
